Battle of the consoles : Xbox vs. PlayStation
The video game industry has come a long way, reaching a booming $30 Billion market in 2016. Two major gaming platforms in this market are Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox. With these platforms becoming much more than just gaming consoles- here are three reasons why you should get a PlayStation and three reasons to get an Xbox.
Team Sony
Popularity
Sony has released many versions of their iconic PlayStation throughout the years. Whether it be an upgraded model or a completely new console, Sony has dominated sales since their initial release in 1994. The PS2 and PS1 are first and second, respectively, on the list of home consoles units sold. The PS4 recently joined an elite club of consoles that have sold over 60 million units worldwide. This is almost twiceas much units sold as the Xbox One.
What does this mean? Other than the fact that gamers prefer purchasing Sony’s product over Microsoft’s, this means that more people are playing their favorite titles on PlayStation. With more people having the PS, you’ll find it a lot easier to connect and play online with your friends and fellow gamers around the world.
Under the hood
When comparing horsepower here, the PS has a clear advantage on the Xbox. “It has 50% more GPU compute units, allowing for greater parallel processing power that can either be used for onscreen fidelity, or for in-game effects such as real-time physics.” This allows for games to run better on Sony’s platform.
The PS$ gives the gamer a better resolution on screen. It run’s on a sharp 1,920 x 1,080 resolution opposed to the Xbox’s 1,600 x 900. This gives us a clearer image on the screen.
VR
Virtual reality is considered by many to be the future of gaming. Putting the gamer inside his game is the next big thing. Just image yourself out there playing sports with your favorite all-stars, racing in your favorite car, or being in the middle of a battlefield. With Sony’s VR gaining some heat, Xbox doesn’t look like it will be joining the race anytime soon. This gives Sony a big step in the right direction into the future of gaming. With this cool new feature being available to everyone now, we just hope you don’t end up like this guy:
Team Microsoft
$$$$$
For both consoles games don’t come cheap- average prices amounting to $60 for each new game. With new consoles coming out every few years, gamers face the decision of what to do with all the games they’ve accumulated over time. Xbox allows for backwards compatibility, a way for you to keep your beloved collection of games.
The Xbox console is also cheaper than the PS to begin with. This is money that can go towards buying a new game, another controller, or straight to your pocket. With the Xbox one doubling as a full The Xbox also boosts an Ultra HD Blu-Ray player, giving you even more value to your money.
Multimedia features
With Xbox One, Microsoft offers you more than just a video game console. Your Xbox can become a hub, allowing you to switch easily between your computer, TV and games. The Xbox comes with a HDMI input, which allows you to connect your home cable to your Xbox. If you don’t have cable, the Xbox offers you many alternatives for watching and streaming your favorite shows. The Xbox can also play CD’s and other files from a local storage.
Another neat feature Microsoft offers is a linkup to other windows 10 devices. Game streaming allows for people with these devices to play any Xbox game on their devices if they’re connected to the same Wi-Fi.
Battle of the Onlines
As previously mentioned, PSN gives you a better chance at matchmaking due to the fact that more people are playing. But, does this mean that their experience is better? According to third party, IHS Markit Xbox Live offers the user a more reliable service. With many features of games revolving around the use of network, Xbox offers a more dependable online experience with heightened reliability and speed.
The Bottom Line: Sony vs. Microsoft, Kinect vs. VR, Xbox Live vs. PSN. So, next time around scoring goals in Fifa, stealing cars in GTA, or just shooting zombies; will it be on your new PlayStation or Xbox?
